Dear 1-O Families,
This week in Reader’s Workshop we have been busy practices strategies to figure out bumps.
On Tuesday, Animal Educator, Elizabeth came and visited us from the NH-S.P.C.A.
She brought two bunnies and two guinea pigs and told us a felt board story about a dog name Sam, and how he was helped by the SPCA. Thanks to the Healthy Snack Sale and donations, the school was able to send the SPCA $300 to help the animals. Thanks again for your support. Also all prepackaged snacks that were not sold were donated to the “End 68 hours of Hunger” fund.
In Writer’s workshop we’ve been working on filling the page adding important details. We tried adding words like one day, first, then, next after and finally to our writing. We’ve talked about
On two beautiful afternoons we went out at the end of the day to collect more data on trees. Along with tree we are starting to learn about bats.
On Thursday first graders enjoyed going out to look at the fire trucks and the ambulance. We got to see a fire fighter suited up with clothing and gear to withstand high heat and fire. Fire Chief Warren suggested that kids talk to their families about choosing a safe meeting place outside your home in case of fire. I remembered once burning something in the oven and setting off the smoke alarms. I looked for my children and found them outside sitting at the picnic table with their hands folded. They learned this at daycare. After that we always used the picnic table as our spot.
I look forward to meeting with many of you this week for parent conferences on Wednesday October 19, 2016.
Please remember that both this Wednesday and next Wednesday are early releases.
Keep up the good reading.
Have a good weekend!
