In September and October 1-O friends raised monarch butterflies from eggs to butterflies. We learned that butterflies released at the end of the season migrate to Mexico to find a warm place to spend the winter and mate. We decided to learn a little bit about this place. We made a list of things we know about Mexico and made a list of things we want to learn about Mexico and know.
One December 20th we invited family to come to a celebration our learning about Mexico.

Dia de Los Muertos
About the time we celebrate Halloween in East Kingston, New Hampshire, people in Mexico celebrate
Dio de los Muertos (The Day of the dead). This is a time to celebrate the memory of relatives who have died. People tidy up graves and decorate them with lots of colorful flowers. They party and celebrate and remember relative and friend who have died. Sugar skulls are a symbol of the holiday. We enjoyed making sugar skull masks at our Halloween party and making paper flowers.
